Happy New Year!
Well I seem to say it with more conviction each year but last year seemed to just fly by, I’m sure it’s something to do with getting older.
Saturday Visits:
I have a couple of weeks to catch up on as I have been away for the Christmas period. Firstly a big hello to some folks who came and said hello at the market the week before Christmas. My good friend Steve popped in for a chat, he had loads to talk about as he had just been OS and it had been a while between chats. Steve told me that he has been cleaning up at the awards in the Hobart Photographic Society this year, if you live in Hobart and fancy some inspiration – this is a great place to start – here
Hi to Nic and Sam for taking time out of their busy ‘pre Christmas’ shop to have a chat and finally a ‘hi’ to Birgit, a German tourist in town for the end of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race and the Taste of Tasmania food festival.
Family Christmas:
From the Market it was a quick pack up and before I knew it I was in Melbourne for my Christmas family break.
Aside from the traditional – stuffing yourself silly with food and exchange of presents – the trip was basically a chance to catch up with friends and family so I spent four days on the road, zipping from one side of Melbourne to the other, my hasty and sometimes geographically challenged ‘zipping’ was punctuated with relaxing ‘catch up’ sessions with some very dear friends.
Sick day:
On the last day of my Melbourne holiday I felt a slight cold coming on but decided I would just ignore it and it would probably go away – wrong! The next day I had to be dragged to the airport for my return flight and once home I spent the next 3 days in bed! I was so unwell, I had to give up my site at the market on Saturday – Although I was offered help by friends, I couldn’t even pack my car! So for the first time in 4 years I had my first Salamanca market sick day! I decided to have a quick trip to the market as I am always being asked for photographs of Salamanca in full flight (a photograph I have never been able to take as I am always in it!)

Playing games:
I went to the silo end of the market and basically joined a queue of people all lined up to take the ‘postcard shot’. It was hilarious to see people wanting to stand in exactly the same spot as others to make sure they got the optimum shot. I played a bit of a game to test out this theory. As I had quite a big camera, I attracted a bit of attention from others taking their photographs. I noticed that everywhere I stood to compose an image, within about a minute; someone else would put themselves into the same place presumably to take the same shot? This was quite amusing so I decided to put myself into some very awkward positions, in the gutter, standing on a wall, behind a car etc. and to my amazement people just followed. From some of the positions you could barely see the market! As I drove past, I saw a number people jostling for some of the more awkward positions, a cheeky grin on my face!
Anyway I thought I would accompany this blog with a first and a last.
The last photograph I took in 2006 and the first I took in 2007.

Hope you have a great (and safe) 2007 (and I hope this flu goes away!)
Until next time
;-)
Oh and all the orders placed last week are ready for dispatch tomorrow – sorry for the delay – combination of public and private holidays!
